Every year, in May, our school in Gafsa organises a sports day. This year, the weather was sunny and warm. All the pupils wore white T-shirts and caps, and many parents came to watch.
In the morning, there was a running race. My best friend Ahmed was the fastest runner, but near the end, Walid fell down and hurt his knee. Ahmed stopped and helped him to get up. They crossed the finish line together, and everyone clapped loudly. After that, we played football, rope skipping and a sack race.
At noon, our teachers gave us fresh orange juice, bananas and sandwiches. Our headmaster said, ‘Sport keeps you fit, but kindness makes you strong.’ At the end of the day, Ahmed and Walid won a special prize: two medals for friendship. I was tired but very happy.

writing and self-checkLast month, your school organised a sports day. Write a paragraph (6 to 8 sentences) to describe the weather, the activities you did (at least 3), what you ate and drank and how you felt at the end of the day. (4 marks)
Steps
- I read the task and underline what I must write about.
- I write 3 or 4 key words for each point.
- I write 6 to 8 short sentences, then I check capital letters, full stops and verbs.
- I check with the list, then I compare with the model.
I read my paragraph again and tick each point I respected
A model paragraph to compare with (after writing mine)
Last month, our school in Nabeul organised a sports day. The weather was sunny but not too hot. In the morning, I ran in the hundred-metre race and I came second. Then my class played a football match against Year 5, and we won three goals to one. In the afternoon, we did rope skipping and a sack race. At lunchtime, we ate sandwiches and fruit, and we drank lots of water. At the end of the day, I was tired but very proud of my team.
One good example among many: compare, don’t copy.
